I visited my doctor Easter Monday for my yearly physical. After the normal checking and test the conversation turned to my football injured neck. Meet Shelley! Her smile is living proof that even in the face of adversity there is hope enough to smile!

Shelley has had 45 surgeries and her husband diagnosed with cancer, but she is determined to do all she can to improve their situation. She came to Gallery Furniture to get a new Tempur-pedic Cloud to help improve their sleep. We Are So Excited......

Meet Jose and Martha and their beautiful daughters. They came to Gallery Furniture where there business is greatly appreciated after getting the run around from Rooms to Go.

They have been on the long road of rebuilding after loosing everything to Hurricane Ike. Now preparing to move into their completed home they needed furniture for their daughters.

For convenience they went to Rooms to Go first only to find disappointment. Almost ready to just settle, Martha insisted they go to Gallery Furniture where she knew they would be treated right.
Upon arriving they were greeted by a helpful sales team, found a great selection at better prices, and then were approved for double the amount of credit Rooms to Go tried to offer them. Why Your Dining Room Table is So Special!

Did you know that your dining room table is the heart of your home? Both government and academic studies show that families who eat regular meals together not only benefit nutritionally, but also emotionally!

With busy schedules that seem to preempt family meal times it is important to eat as many meals together as possible. Sitting down together at the dining room table should be a regular occurrence, not just a holiday event. It is important that the dining room table is a comfortable place for the whole family; here’s why.

Children who eat five or more meals a week are:

1. more likely to get A’s and B’s in school
2. more likely to think their parents are proud of them
3. more than 50% less likely to drink alcohol, smoke cigarettes or try marijuana
4. less likely to say there is tension between family members
5. less likely to feel depressed or suicidal

Studies also show that teenagers who sit down to a family dinner five times a week are 45% less likely to drink and 66% less likely to do drugs, and a whopping 72% report that their parents would be the first people they went to if they had a problem. Yet, even with these overwhelmingly positive statistics, only about one-half of American teenagers report that they eat regular family meals together.

The 2004 Archives of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine reported that adolescents who ate frequent family meals did better in school and had better nutritional intake. It also went on to report that these adolescents were less likely to use drugs and alcohol and less likely to experience symptoms of depression or physical problems. Frequent family meals are also credited with improving mental health problems such as low self-esteem, depression and suicidal tendencies.

The largest ever study of teens conducted in 2000 discovered a strong link between regular family meals of five or more per week and academic success, psychological adjustment, lower rates of substance abuse, lower early promiscuous behavior, and suicidal risk. Across the board the experts agree that having regular family meals is of the utmost importance.

Yesterday, Mattress Mack received a disturbing phone call from a distraught mom regarding the Gallery Furniture Teachers Lounge Makeover Contest. She told Mack that her 10-year-old son and his class had been taught how to view the history of the computers web browser, then clear it and the cookies so that each person could repeatedly vote for their school to win the contest. This Mom was very upset that her son and his whole class was being taught how to cheat the system to win a contest and feel good about it. Obviously, this is not what we want children being taught in school.

After receiving this highly upsetting news, Gallery Furniture began to investigate all of the voting and was appalled to find that 19 schools have participated in voting fraud violating the one vote per day per Facebook fan rule. This has created a huge dilemma and Gallery Furniture wants to hear your opinion.

The Customer came into Gallery Furniture saying, “ I should have known better!” He then stated, “ I bought my living room furniture from Gallery Furniture 18 months ago and received delivery in 4-5 hours, a totally great experience. I decided to shop at Rooms to Go in Katy and saw two bunk beds for my children’s rooms. Attended the Texas A&M Center for Retailing Studies seminar Thursday and Friday, October 7& 8 in Dallas. WOW, what a wealth of knowledge from great presenters. Presenting companies included Target, Walmart, Best Buy, Foot Locker, Walgreens, Firestone, The Container Store and great consultants and researchers.

If you have a passion for retailing, this is a seminar you can’t afford to miss in October 2011! Thanks to Cheryl Bridges and all the great folks at A&M Center for Retailing Studies for your hardwork in presenting such an enlightening and motivating seminar. My mind is racing with information overload as I decide which new retailing idea to implement first. Thanks to all of the presenters and the CRS staff for an outstanding two days!

Attended a meeting at Rice University this morning at the Institute of Urban Research. The Institute studies the problems and issues facing big cities around the globe, with a focus on Houston. Headed by my friend Stephen Klineberg and his associate Michael Emerson, the institute is a great resource for Houston! For over thirty years now Stephen Klineberg led the Houston Area Survey to determine the demographic make up of Houston, outlook of citizens and a list of transformations taking place right in front of our eyes. Fascinating!

Highlights of Today’s meeting:

1. Houston is adding an extra 140,000 new residents each year, the most in the country. Dallas is second to Houston. Houston sounds like a great place to sell Tempur-pedic!

“Mack do you still deliver tonight? I need lots of children’s furniture in my Dad’s home in Houston where we will be living. I need the children’s furniture tonight!” Yes, Gallery Furniture can deliver tonight, that’s our claim to fame!

She hurriedly arrived at Gallery Furniture with her two children and asks again, can you still deliver tonight? Oops, They Did it Again!

6:30 PM, Sunday night September 19, 2010. Everybody’s pulling for the Texans to win in overtime. I was answering the phone at the Gallery Furniture front desk. The customer on the other end of the phone said, “ I just listened to your commercial saying that Ashley Furniture stinks, you are SOOOOO right!” How so I ask? “My name is Guadalupe and I bought two sets of living room furniture from Gallery Furniture in April 2010. The sales and delivery guys were great and the furniture was in my home in three hours – perfect! I needed bedroom furniture for my three children and decided to try Ashley Furniture since it was close to my Houston home. I am SOOO upset that I didn’t go back to Gallery Furniture because my purchase from Ashley has been a disaster!”

I bought furniture at Ashley for my three children on August 7 and today, after 19, count ‘em 19 deliveries I’m still missing one of the beds. It’ truly a nightmare! Everything you say about Ashley is true! I just want to vent and tell you all future furniture for my Houston home will be purchased at Gallery Furniture.

This is a sad but true story I hear from great Gallery Furniture customers all too often. They go to another store only to be terribly disappointed. Gallery Furniture recently delivered a house full of furniture to a great Texas customer in Fate, Texas. Fate is northeast of Dallas, coincidentally where I used to drag race in High School, but that’s another blog. When I called the customer to see how the delivery went, I was unprepared for the response.

“We have moved over 15 times in our lives and have lived all over the world. The two guys you sent to make our delivery are the best delivery service people we have ever encountered anywhere on the globe! They were polite, experienced, professional and oh so competent. The furniture looked great and our house is now complete, what a treat!

As fate would have it, that very afternoon we went over to our grandsons soccer game and one of the parents was talking about the difficulty they were having with Ashley Furniture. Everyday I call back 40-50 great Gallery Furniture customers who had furniture delivered to their Houston, Spring or Galveston Home the day before by the Gallery Furniture Delivery staff. You would be amazed by their comments:

“They did a great job setting up my two curios – cleaned up the cardboard afterward and were in and out in ten minutes!”

Occasionally, however Gallery Furniture drops the ball. This was a comment I got from a great Gallery Furniture customer Monday after the delivery. The delivery went ok, but they lacked the parts to sep up my Berg Bunk Bed and its sitting all over the floor of my child’s room.

At Gallery Furniture this type of service is not acceptable. Informed the Gallery Furniture warehouse team and they were immediately sprang into action. Assessed the problem and found that the pre-dilled holes were missing on two of the key parts of the bunk bed. Assembled a team to go immediately to the customer’s house and fix the problem so the child could sleep in the Gallery Furniture bunk bed that night. The team arrived and went up the stairs, measured, drilled the hole, completed the assembly, wiped down the bunk bed and the child was happy the bed was set up and looked beautiful.

Speech to the Lone Star WWI Veterans Honor Flight Event in Conroe, Tx

Let me start by thanking Brenda Beavin, Duane McFadden, Jack McClanahan and the army of people who have not only arranged these amazing series of flights, but also this very special day.

Let me add it is fitting that we gather together on this day to celebrate service, and heroism, and the highest form of patriotism. Today, September 11, 2010, we are reminded once again that freedom isn't free, and that our liberty and openness as a society can sometimes come at a great cost.

Of course, saying that before this group is literally preaching to the choir.

My respect for this group knows no bounds. But I am at a certain disadvantage. You see, you all have your war stories, and I don't. But before I get started, let me do just a little name-dropping and share a few stories from one of your peers.

The greatest generation is renowned for their selfless sacrifices and self-deprecation - so some of you, I am sure, have heard your peer former Present Bush 41 talk only after some hesitation about his own days at war. I have, too, so let me share just a few of those stories for those of you who have not heard them already.

First, he talks about his time as a pilot. To give you an idea, he likes to note that he took off two more times than he landed. It's a mixed record - like when they asked John Kennedy how he became a war hero. Kennedy said: "That's simple. They sank my boat."

These days, President Bush also likes to joke about his memory, but I can assure you he clearly recalls where he was on December 7th, 1941 - when the surprise attack at Pearl Harbor shocked our country, and awoke us from the isolationistic slumber we had been in, and brought us fully into the war.

He particularly remembers how totally united our nation was after Pearl Harbor - how everyone wanted to do their part in the war effort. Patriotism seems like such an old-fashioned word in some quarters today, but back then there was a genuine sense of patriotism in the United States.

Today, many people seem to have a strange definition of patriotism that includes protesting against your country on foreign soil, or burning our flag. It's sad, but happily those twisted souls who get so much press attention are but few in the grand scheme of things.

Yours was the greatest generation in modern times, for sure, but what makes you even greater is who we now hold high as examples.

Think about it:

Tiger Woods?

Former Enron chairman Jeff Skilling?

I have too much respect for the Presidency to comment on those policies or problems, but as for the Congress it is all-time lows in terms of approvals - and deservedly so.

Maybe you're the same, but I remember a time when the Legislative Branch, even members of the same Party, was check on Executive Power. Now, under this leadership, our Congressman and Women aren't even permitted to review the legislation they are voting to pass.

As a result, the debt and deficit are at historic highs.

It's insane.

In the private sector, Wall Street has had its own abuses - but the markets have eliminated or punished many of the bad actors. That's why I believe in markets - they tend to work. Meanwhile, the government goes on unobstructed.

And despite what you hear about a tsunami or turnover in Congress, many of the same pretenders and paper lions that orchestrated the housing crisis will be re-elected this fall.

Many of you, I am sure, saw this movie before in the 1930s - when private excesses and a lack of public leadership led us into a Depression.

Many of the answers and policies we adopted back then are not available to us now, so why, then, I am optimistic about America an our future today?

We have tremendous challenge that we face in terms of our debt and deficit.

We face a ruthless fiscal assault on private industry - more regulation, more taxes - while at the same time the government expects us to create the jobs they want and America families need.

We face uncertain signals from Washington in terms of business rules and regulations.

Then you add the wars we are fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan - and the sacrifices and difficulties we face there.

So why am I optimistic?

The answer, my friends, is sitting right here in front of me.

You've all been here before, haven't you?

You know what hard times are all about.

The passage of time makes it easy to forget that the 1930s and 1940s were decades of great danger and uncertainty in our world. Led by fanatics, the armies you faced back then routinely and systematically killed without remorse - seeking to destroy the freedoms we have always cherished.

Such was the dictators' brutal nature that their actions almost seem surreal. And yet, you need look no further than to the death camps in Europe, or to the massacre at Nanjing, to understand the true depths of their depravity.

Defeating the Axis Powers would come at a great cost.

Winston Churchill often remarked to General Eisenhower that "we must take care that the tide does not run red with the blood of American and British youth, or the beaches be choked with their bodies." In the end, as you know, the price of victory in World War II was high - just as Churchill feared - but today, you also know that the price of defeat surely would have been far greater.

All that stood between the Axis Powers and their objectives was an ill-prepared, somewhat disparate alliance of free peoples - nations that were generally slow to anger, and perhaps even reluctant to fight at first, but who, once provoked, were unrelenting in their mission to see justice prevail.

Such was the case when history beckoned nearly seven decades ago, and thrust the next generation of American heroes into the crucible of war. These were average men and women who lived in extraordinary times. No matter their role - on the home front, or on the front lines - they were united. No matter the danger or hardship, they responded with exceptional bravery.

Tom Brokaw, in his wonderful book, called the World War II veterans the "greatest generation." I wholeheartedly agree with Mr. Brokaw, but would add an addendum.

The men and women who make up our all-volunteer forces fighting today in Iraq, in Afghanistan, and serving with honor and integrity in countless other locations around the world are every bit as great as any generation that preceded them.

The comforts of modern society have not lessened the burdens that they have freely borne, just as their families have not been spared the constant pain of separation.

To each of them, no less a debt of gratitude is owed.

An inherent part of our birthright as Americans is a sacred duty to defend freedom. Today, we as Americans - now facing this new enemy in international terror - can take solace that despite the danger we still face in our world, a new band of brothers has stepped forward and answered this timeless, noble call.

During World War II, Eleanor Roosevelt reportedly kept a prayer on her bedside that read: "Help me to remember somewhere out there a man died for me today. As long as there be war, I must ask and answer 'Am I worth dying for?'"

Tonight when I go to sleep - and say my prayers of gratitude for those who served so many years ago in World War II - I will remember, too, that there is a young man or woman half-way around the world, sitting alone in the dark, waiting to go out on patrol. They may be tired, and even a little scared - but everyday they put on that uniform, and they lay their lives on the line for each of us, to keep us free and safe. They not only make us proud: despite the uncertainty of the times in which we find ourselves, they also inspire us, and give us confidence in our future.

And so while it is proper that we pause to look back, and reflect on your heroism, I will also suggest that we can all look forward with renewed faith, hope, and courage that America's best days are yet to be.

My favorite hymn in the Catholic Church I attend has a refrain that states:

We Remember...

We celebrate...

We Believe...

Our delightful new friend and great customer Bonnie came in to Gallery Furniture today because she was fed-up with Rooms to Go! Her horror story started about a year ago when she purchased a powered recliner from Rooms To Go. She had to miss work over 10 days waiting for the delivery and when it finally go there it was a regular recliner not the powered model she had purchased.

In took another month to finally get the correct recliner and in less than 10 months it broke. The team delivering the replacement recliner was totally unprofessional! Bonnie was shocked that they took a very valuable antique mirror off the wall without even asking!

When Bonnie called Rooms to Go to see about getting her 10 month old recliner fixed, they told her they were not responsible because she overused it. Bonnie told us she was floored at their excuse as she is the only one living in her home and she did not use the recliner enough to even begin to wear it out!

Bonnie and her boyfriend have found a new hobby she told us; telling everyone she can not to buy at Rooms to Go because of the way they treated her! Mud - No Problem!

Last Thursday at 9:PM our delivery team arrived at their destination in Baytown. Our customer had finally gotten their home rebuilt after suffering severe damage from Hurricane Ike. She was very excited to see her furniture arrive, but was somewhat distraught at all the mud in her front yard due to the recent rain.

Our expert delivery team lead by John M. sprung into action and used all the cardboard from their previous deliveries to lay out a track to the front door to keep the mud away. They were able to get the furniture up the stairs and into the house without getting any mud on the brand new carpet and our customer was thrilled at the extra steps the delivery team had taken.

Wait a minute, isn't that the postal service motto from way way back? Our expert delivery team set out to deliver a King Sized Solid Wood Santa Fe bed in Friendswood, only to find when they got there that it was to big to make it up the stairs. As you can see from the photo, this is a massive bed.

Determined not to disappoint the customer, they took the bed back to our furniture expert at the warehouse and removed the bottoms of the headboard legs so that it can be redelivered to day and reassembled once they get it in the room. Now that's delivering!

Specialist Casey, a very hard working U.S. Army X-ray Technician stationed in Baghdad is home for two weeks of R&R and first mission was to head to Gallery Furniture to get the World's Greatest Mattress - Tempur-pedic so that she can get some real rest.

Working in a busy medical facility in Baghdad, rest is something she gets very little of. Not to mention the mattresses aren't the best. She had heard how great Tempur-pedic was, so for her two weeks home, she just had to have one!

Bed Without a Mattress

Our great new friend Maria came in today after being horribly mistreated by a furniture store we shall not name. She was lured in to their Memorial Day sale last week and bought a bed and mattress that was to be delivered yesterday. She was so excited and really needed her new mattress; you see, Maria is 9 months pregnant.

The bed finally arrived, but to her dismay there was no mattress. Come on, let's get real; what good is a bed without the mattress? Maria wasted the rest of her day calling repeatedly only to be given a wide range of excuses. Around 6:00pm she finally got a concrete answer that the mattresses would be there before 11:00pm. So she waited and waited and finally fell asleep without a bed to sleep in!

At 7:40am this morning she emailed "Mattress Mack" stating her problem. Mack was returning her call only to find out she was already at Gallery Furniture being taken excellent care of by Steve Donald, one of Gallery's top sales experts. Maria said she was so impressed that Mack himself called her, as she could never get in touch with a manager at Ashley.

She picked out an even better Stearns and Foster mattress at an even better price and had it all arranged for delivery while she headed back to the unnamed furniture store to get her refund. After arguing to get her refund and being told that it really wasn't the unnamed furniture store's fault because they don't own or control their delivery trucks, she called Steve at Gallery Furniture to finalize the sale and her mattresses are on their way to her! She will sleep great tonight!

Every business loves a referral and at Gallery Furniture we work hard to earn them, but today we got a referral from a very unexpected source. Our new friend and great customer Larry came in from College Station because Rooms to Go couldn't deliver the furniture he had ordered from them a month ago! Time and time again customers come in down trodden from being lied to and promised delivery only to be put off to many times. Gallery Furniture realizes furniture is not a luxury but something people have to have in their homes.

Larry needed a bed, and a whole house full of furniture and he had ordered and paid for it a month ago so that it would be delivered when he moved in to his new home. When he didn't get it yesterday as promised he went back to Rooms to Go only to be given more excuses. He even tried reselecting only to be told later in the day it would not be available till June 16th.

He finally had enough and asked for a refund so that he could head out to hunt down the furniture he needed. As he was leaving his salesman told him if you want it today the only place to go is Gallery Furniture.

Our good friend and long-time customer Vernon came in today to make his third Tempur-pedic purchase. Three years ago he had bought a Rhapsody for himself and it was so good he came back and got one for his sister and today he bought one for a close friend.

It all started over three years ago, Vernon related. I had back problems so bad I was having to see a Chiropractor two times a day. I went on a trip with a friend of mine and our host said they heard I had back problems so they wanted me to sleep on their Tempur-pedic. I slept on it for three days and by day three I could hop out of bed with no pain.

One of the world’s greatest customers came in to Gallery Furniture today and told us the most unfortunate horrible experience his Mother-in-Law had with Rooms to Go. What made the story even WORSE, was she had paid for her furniture two months in advance and they still could not get it right! Now some of you might be ok with a company having your money for two months, but Gallery Furniture is a TODAY company. You buy it today and get it today. Even when you special order our custom leather home theater seating you get it in 7 days or it is absolutely FREE!

So the Mother-in-Law bought a new home in the Katy area so she went to Rooms to Go and placed her order two months in advance. They finally delivered part of it and when she called to see where the rest was all she got was the run-a-round. And when she asked to speak to a manager, she was told that everyone was a manger and they would check with the corporate office when they are open.

Struggling to furnish her new home she continued to follow up with Rooms to Go only to be disappointed at every turn. She asked about reselecting and was told there would be a 10% restocking fee plus a new delivery fee even though they had never delivered her full order correctly. What Happens When a Special Order Goes Awry?

Wow, the special order from Mayo arrived within 5 days and the fabrics and craftsmanship were everything hoped for. The delivery date and time was set and one of Gallery Furniture’s expert delivery teams moved in the rug, two chairs, ottoman, two end tables and matching sofa table that would go with the coffee table I had purchased last year. Then came the love seat and the fabulous coordinating accent pillows. WOW! The room was really coming together.

Now it was time for the largest piece of the order, the sofa. The delivery team politely asked me to move my car so they could bring it straight in through the garage. I moved the car and went up stairs waiting with great anticipation. Hmm, things got quiet and finally one of the delivery team emerged on the stairwell landing. They called me over and showed me how they were not able to get the sofa to turn the corner. This was highly unexpected on my part. I had laid out the furniture on the planner with my salesman on his iPad and it all fit perfectly; the one thing neither of us thought of, was would it go up the stairs

Distraught I asked the delivery team to please put the sofa in the downstairs room for the time being. Not sure what to expect I talked to customer service the next day and they gladly arranged to send out some of their “difficult” delivery experts. At the appointed time Roy, Arturo and Lilo arrived and immediately sized up the situation. They tried to remove the stair rail, but it turned out there was no way to safely remove it so they set out to make every attempt possible to get the sofa in place. After several tried they had to concede that the sofa was a foot too long to be moved up my stairs.

Not sure what to expect, but severely distraught I called Gallery Furniture the next day and was very surprised when Mack himself answered the phone. I explained my serious dilemma and he listened patiently. Since only the pillows were an actual special order on my sofa and love seat he told me to come in and see him personally and he would arrange an exchange. I was not sure what to expect having gone through severe hassles at others stores, but Gallery Furniture assured me they would make me a happy customer.

I went in the next day and selected a great sectional and Roy was there to inspect the piece to make sure it would go up the stairs with no problems. I had a few errands to run and by the time I was finished Gallery Furniture was calling ready to pick up the furniture that would not fit and place my new sectional in my new home.

Young Katherine recently saw the new Gallery Furniture commercial featuring the Gallery Furniture monkeys finishing their first board of directors meeting. Knowing it was time to get new bedroom furniture for her room, she immediately told her mom there was no place she would go but Gallery Furniture!

Knowing how hard it is to shop for furniture for young girls, Mom gladly decided to take her to Gallery Furniture TODAY, where they found great deals on delightful furniture for her bedroom. Dear Mattress Mac (Jim),

I'm writing to you to plead my case. I'm embarrassed and distraught at the same time.

My husband and I went to your store (Parker Tidwell) back in Aug. '09 and bought the Rhapsody Tempurpedic mattress. I loved it from the beginning although I was still waking up with soreness here and there. My husband on the other hand did not like it from the very beginning. He said it was too hard. He is very bony and that could've been why. But anyways with much discussion we decided it was not right for us so here we go back to the store and have to face Bull. He swore up & down that if we bought a non-tempurpedic we would definitely have holes/indents in the mattresses. Well Low & Behold he was so right! But NO we would not listen and you gave the ok to exchange my tempurpedic for a regular mattress which I thought was so kind of you to do being that your 45 days grace period were up. Oh Mac, I have made so many large & small mistakes in my life, but this one really takes the cake. We are so distraught over the new regular mattress we chose. Bull was so right! The first week with our new mattresses the holes/indents were very present. Well we are in March now and they are worse than ever I don't know what to do! I want my tempurpedic back! It doesn't have to be the Rhapsody it could be another, maybe softer one. Why I didn't stick with tempurpedic is beyond me. You are so right when you say back back back pain. Mac, I will do anything, pay my delivery fee if you will give us another tempurpedic. PLease tell us what to do.

My husband and I so much wanted to go to the Christmas Dinner at your location, but how could we have shared our experiences with our tempurpedic when we didn't have it anmymore??

Jim, whatever conclusion you come up with whether negative or positive is alright with us. Thank you so much for listening.

Urgent - Right Now Delivery Needed!

Gallery Furniture received an urgent call from one of our many great repeat customers, she said " My in-laws are unexpectedly coming in tonight and I need lots of furniture for my house to look great. Can your decorator come and make suggestions today at 3:00 PM?" Of course the answer was YES! Little did we know what would happen next.

After Michael Burns- Gallery Furniture's top designer visited her home and made recommendations , I observed Michael scurrying through the store at 5:00PM. What's up Mike I asked, how was the consultation? She will be here in ten-minutes and we need to get the room totally delivered and furnished by 9:00PM he replied.

What occurred next was a flurry of activity! Eight gallery Furniture crew members tuned in to help Mike move tables, lamps and accessories to get them with the perfect sectional till all delighted the eye of our great Gallery Furniture customer.

The sale was completed and now the task was to deliver and set-up the sectional, tables, lamps and accessories before her in-laws arrived at 9:00PM. Five Gallery Furniture crew members expertly packed the furniture along with Mike and two of his design crew. They set out to the customers home to begin the magical transformation process.

Upon arriving at her home the activity began and continued until our great Gallery Furniture customer said "PERFECT!" As the Gallery Furniture truck was leaving she repeated how she loved all that Mike and his crew had done! At Gallery Furniture it's all bout delighting our great customers RIGHT NOW!

What is the heart of your home? Is it the bedroom? Living room? Kitchen? Multi-media room? The answer is the dining room table. Government and scholarly studies show that a family that eats together benefits nutritionally as well as emotionally. Here’s why:

Studies prove that children that eat five or more meals with their family a week are:

1. More likely to get A’s and B’s in school

2. More likely to feel their parents are proud of them.

3. More than 50% less likely to drink alcohol smoke cigarettes or try marijuana.

4. Less likely to say there is tension between family members.

5. Less likely to feel depressed or suicidal.

These reasons alone are enough for most of us to start scheduling more family meals, but read on there is a lot more! But here are even more shared with us by Dr. Margaret King and Senior Analyst Jamie O’Boyle of The Center for Cultural Studies & Analysis.

We all know the problems teens are suffering and having to deal with as they grow into young adults. But teenagers that sit down to a family dinner five times a week are 45% less likes to drink alcohol and 66% less likely to do drugs. Yet, even with these positive statistics only one-half of Americas teenagers report that they eat any family dinners regularly.

Where do your teenagers go for advice? Most parents would like to think the answer would be Mom or Dad, but the truth is all too often our teens seek and receive ill advice from their peers. However, a whopping 72% of the teens that eat regular meals with their families report that their parents would be the first people they would seek advice from if they had a problem.

Americas slim = beauty societal values have created eating disorders in many young girls. But studies show that when teenage girls eat five family dinners a week they are 33% less likely to develop eating disorders.

Family time around the dining room table is important! I national poll of high school seniors showed that those who ate regular family meals tend to be happier with their present life and their prospects for the future. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services states, “Regularly sitting down for a meal with your children is one way to connect and be involved with what’s happening in their lives.”

Dinner around the dining room table doesn’t just improve the lives of families with children. It is also a great way for couples to reconnect and catch up with each other face-to-face.

By 1833 the downfall of the cinnamon monopoly had begun when other countries realized how easy it was to grow in their tropical climates. Today the wonderful smells of cinnamon permeates malls and airports in the form of big baking cinnamon rolls and other delightful treats. Cinnamon is one of the most widely used spices in all sorts of baking and cooking, and most recently it has become very popular in coffee drinks. Many of you, the World's Greatest Customers (WGC), and WGC to-be may not be familiar with Gallery Furniture's superior design services. Designer extraordinaire Michael Burns has been with Gallery Furniture for over ten years. Not only does Michael keep both Gallery Furniture showrooms looking great, he is also available to help YOU get the right look for any room, or your whole house.

Michael recently worked with the design team of Extreme Home Makeover on the home they did in Kemah. Stay tuned to the Gallery Furniture Facebook page where we will unveil the photos after the show airs in March. Michael has also done many notable homes in the Houston area, including Basketball Stars Sam Cassell and Damian Jones, whose home was featured on MTV. Michael is currently working with Houston Astro Hunter Pence on his new home.

The Veiled Violet was used to finish the remaining walls as it is a dramatic color that is not too dark or overpowering, yet it provides warmth and richness throughout the rooms.

Gallery Furniture Sends Local Teach to National College Championship

Xang Chareunsab, former University of Texas Wide Receiver, #17, when UT won the National Championship in 2005 will be returning to the Championship Game this Thursday to Cheer his team to victory thanks to the generosity of Mattress Mack.

While speaking at the Aldine football banquet Mack met Xang who mentioned he would really like to go to the game, so Mack casually told him to come on by Gallery Furniture and pick-up a ticket!

Xang currently teaches geometry and coaches at Aldine McArthur High School. Mack being a big supporter ofthose who teach the youth of America felt sending this former tri-athlete to the game was the right thing to do. People who work to help others better themselves are giving of themselves and deserve to be rewarded.

Not only was Xang an outstanding athlete who played football, basketball and ran track while at UT, he also received the Provost Award for maintaining a 4.0 average during the 2004-2005 school year. He is also well known for his 10.7second record in the 100 meter.
